Next Big Sound released a report this week entitled ?Data to Date: The Rapid Rise of Social + Streaming.? The headline is that over 1 trillion songs were streamed in the first half of 2015. That compares to half a trillion in all of 2014.

The numbers are not quite an apples-to-apples comparison, though. For the first time, Next Big Sound?s numbers include those of its new parent company, Pandora. On the other hand, Apple Music didn?t exist yet, so it isn?t included in the first half numbers.

But the report goes beyond just streaming. Next Big Sound also has some interesting data about social
?
Over 1 trillion online music streams were recorded
? Artists gained over 280 million new followers on Instagram (6X more than last year)
? Genre breakdowns across social networks are pretty consistent

Fast Company has dug through the report and pulled a lot of other interesting facts about it. Read their coverage here.
