‘Tis the season for rolling out new hardware. CNN just did an article on the Top 7 Gadgets and Gizmos coming out this fall, headlined by the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini. Other new devices are expected from Microsoft, Nintendo and Samsung, among others. And while we’ll finally get to see exactly what Apple has in store next week at their new product even in San Francisco, Amazon just did their event.
Amazon announced its newest Kindle, the Paperwhite, which will go on sale on October 1st. At the same time, the company announced a price drop on its $79 Kindle. The new Paperwhite will be thinner and lighter, with extended battery life and greater screen resolution than ever. Read all about the upgrades and changes here.
As for Apple’s big announcement, the rollout of not-so-secret iPhone 5 was telegraphed by Apple’s invitation to the event which featured a cleverly embedded shadow of the number 5. Like everyone else, we’ve already speculated on what Apple is going to include in the new iPhone. But Apple always seems to throw a few surprises into the mix, announcing new features, or new products that were not part of the tech world’s early betting line.
We’ll find out exactly what Apple has on Wednesday. In anticipation of that, we expect that Apple will announce two new things: the iPhone 5 (bigger screen, 4 G connectivity, etc.) and details on the new iOS 6 (due later this year). As for the rumored iPad mini (7-inch screen, for a cheaper price), we believe that will not be announced on Wednesday, so as not to upstage the new iPhone. Check back with us next week and see how we did on our predictions.
