Pandora, the hugely popular online radio service, paid 44% of all digital music royalties paid out by non-interactive Internet radio services. Pandora generated $50 million in revenue in 2009 and paid $28 million in royalties, actually managing to turn a profit in the process. While Pandora’s $48 million payment was 44% of Internet radio royalties, it represented about 1% of the total radio payout when terrestrial broadcasting is added in.
